Stewardship Director
As the Stewardship Director, Adam leads WVLT’s efforts to manage its portfolio of properties, including managing projects and providing support for other staff who are working with our partners to implement conservation projects, develop nature preserves, and monitor conservation easements. He also works with land protection and communications staff during project selection and contributes toward storytelling efforts about our properties.
The roots of Adam’s family tree spread across the state, from the Pocohontas County headwaters to the southern coalfields, to the Ohio Valley, and the Eastern Panhandle. Adam’s love for outdoor recreation and the state’s human and natural history are influenced by six generations of ancestors making a home among the West Virginia hills.
Adam has a B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries and M.S. in Journalism from West Virginia University. While in school, he studied water resources in Siberia and chased birds in Mexico during a 10-week exchange program. Adam has worked for industry, private consulting, nonprofit, and government organizations, including helping to develop a source water protection and water quality monitoring program for the City of Salem Public Works in Oregon. He also led stream survey crews in the Pacific Northwest and worked with endangered owls in the Oregon Coast Range alongside bigfoot.
In his free time, Adam enjoys hanging with his dog, growing food and flowers, watching chickens peck around the yard, coaching a local mountain biking team, riding bikes with his family, floating rivers, playing three chords on the guitar, and putting his finger on a map and figuring out how to get there!
