Because of an incredible community of supporters, partners, and advocates, five parcels totaling nearly 2,000 acres in the heart of the New River Gorge region have now been successfully protected!
Together with our partners at Arc of Appalachia, we helped secure a significant conservation opportunity to protect forests, headwater streams, wildlife habitat, scenic overlooks, and a critical conservation corridor, benefiting generations to come.
For the West Virginia Land Trust, this achievement is especially meaningful.
Among the protected properties are Parcels 6 and 7, the long-envisioned connection between our Piney Creek Preserve and the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. Protecting these lands safeguards the Piney Creek watershed, strengthens one connected landscape for wildlife, and advances a future trail corridor between Beckley and the Gorge identified in the Beckley Outdoors Plan.
This victory belongs to everyone who believed this landscape was worth protecting!
Every pledge, every conversation, and every partnership helped make this extraordinary outcome possible!
