Protect Your Special Place
Making the decision to protect YOUR special place takes forward thinking, commitment, and patience. Carrying out that commitment in perpetuity takes professionalism, dedication and creativity. As a land owner in West Virginia you know the beauty and importance of your property and what your vision and wishes are for its future use. The West Virginia Land Trust has established itself as a trustworthy organization whose mission to protect West Virginia’s special places forever resonates in everything we do! Together, we can develop a plan that protects YOUR property, maintains YOUR wishes and fulfills YOUR needs. Several West Virginians have made the decision to preserve their beloved property for future generations, will YOU?

Unlike some organizations which specialize in specific conservation values, our mission is conserving West Virginia’s special places that give our state its distinctive character. That means that we may consider scenic, wildlife, botanical, recreational, or historical conservation values when evaluating a project. The Land Trust works with property owners like you to determine the best conservation approach that meets your individual needs.  The preferred approach is the donation of a conservation easement however; other options include the purchase of easements, or the outright purchase of property.

•  By signing a conservation easement, your property can be protected from development forever, regardless of who owns it.

•  Easements protect property (while allowing it to remain in private hands) and keep the property open for specified farming, forestry, and recreational uses.

•  The West Virginia Land Trust promotes easements as an excellent way to preserve your special place, forever.
